I will be back soon…
” Collect moments, not things” – unknown
A whole world will open up, if you just lift your head from your phones and look up..
So as I mentioned in my previous post I am studying at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. In the first year of your bachelor, you will get a wide range of subjects ranging form mechanics to drawing lessons, from history to form studies. This last one, is the subject of this post.
At the beginning of my studies, this subject was in my opinion the most vague and un defined subject of all. We were told not to create buildings or familiar objects, instead they asked us to create space, let a dialogue arise between elements, focusing on how different elements meet and how the interact. How adding color can change your whole composition, just as much as the decision to not add color at all. To make dynamic and asymmetrical forms, that not only took up space but also created space. You can image that at first, I was clueless of what they actually wanted me to make.
During the following weeks my appreciation for this kind of visual studies grew more and more. The proces was as important, if not more important than the end result. I learned how to play with different forms and elements and create structures, compositions, without really labeling them, but just really going back to the essence of form.
In a month or so, we will have to hand in our portfolio, containing the 8 different assignments we had during this semester. If you are interested, I would love to share it with you when it is done. However, here a little preview of an assignment I finished last week.
The theme for this project was; Structure and detail; SPACE, STRUCTURE & ENCOUNTERS.
The construction as bearer of the spacial image…
